Lunit expands AI breast screening across the Stockholm region
Lunit announced on September 29, 2026 that Lunit INSIGHT MMG is expanding across the Stockholm Region, covering Capio Saint Goran Hospital, Karolinska University Hospital and Sodersjukhuset, where it works as an independent second reader. The company says the expanded deployment is expected to support between 200,000 and 250,000 examinations a year, and that the product has already supported roughly 200,000 examinations over the past three years at Saint Goran, where use began in 2023. Lunit cites a clinical study of more than 55,000 women and real-world results showing a 15 percent increase in cancer detection and more than a 36 percent reduction in radiologists' reading time. The deployment is carried out with Sectra. The announcement does not state the regulatory status covering this specific deployment.
Why it matters: A national or regional screening program is the hardest customer in imaging AI, because the volume is enormous and a miss is a public failure rather than a private one. Using AI as an independent second reader is also the most defensible design, since a human still reads every study. The detection and reading time figures come from Lunit and from Swedish practice, and European screening results do not transfer automatically to a United States population with a different case mix and a different follow up system.
Lunit and 10x Genomics will link pathology images to spatial molecular data
Lunit announced on September 10, 2026 a collaboration with 10x Genomics to combine Lunit SCOPE IO, its AI analysis of standard stained pathology slides, with 10x Genomics Xenium and Atera spatial platforms. The stated aim is to better understand how tissue appearance relates to the underlying biology of tumours, and to identify biomarkers associated with treatment response and resistance. The announcement carries an explicit disclaimer that Lunit SCOPE IO is for research use only and not for use in diagnostic procedures. Lunit describes the SCOPE platform as used in research partnerships with pharmaceutical and laboratory organisations for biomarker research and companion diagnostic development, separately from its FDA-cleared INSIGHT Breast Suite.
Why it matters: This is the quieter half of Lunit's business and the one that pays differently. Screening AI sells to hospitals at hospital prices, while biomarker work sells to pharmaceutical companies developing drugs, which is a smaller number of much larger contracts. For a research team the practical appeal is skipping a step, since a cheap stained slide read by AI may flag what would otherwise need expensive spatial sequencing. Read the research use only label literally: nothing here is for diagnosing a patient.
Careers and Qualifications
What to Know Before Applying
Work areas: Medical imaging, computational pathology, oncology AI, clinical research, regulatory affairs, product, and global commercial work.
Qualification signal: Imaging, pathology, oncology, biostatistics, or software medical-device experience should match the product area. Public-company status does not change the clinical qualification required for the role.

- Was the tool tested prospectively and independently on comparable equipment and patients?
- What are sensitivity, specificity, false positive workload, and time-to-action effects?
- How does performance vary by site, scanner, demographic subgroup, and disease prevalence?
Regulatory and workflow questions
- Which FDA authorization covers the exact product version, modality, and intended use?
- Who retains final clinical responsibility and how is disagreement with the AI handled?
- What post-deployment monitoring and material update notification does the vendor provide?
Data and contract questions
- Where are images and derived data processed and retained?
- Which PACS, RIS, pathology, and EHR integrations are supported in production?
- Can data be used for model improvement, and what controls govern secondary use?
Evidence and Regulation
FDA Clearances on Record
Lunit appears on 6 cleared products in the federal 510(k) record, across 2 device types.
- AI Cancer Detection Software for Radiology ... 5 cleared products
- AI Lesion Prioritization Software for Radiology ... 1 cleared product
A clearance means the FDA agreed the product is close enough to something already on the market to be sold for that use. It is not a finding that the product helps patients, and it is not a ranking against anything else on this page. A company is linked to an FDA clearance only when the 510(k) applicant name on the government record is confirmed by hand to be that same company, including former corporate names. Name similarity alone is never enough, and rejected matches are listed below with the reason.
