Company and Stock Identity
How PathAI Connects to the Public Market
- Company structure
- Private company
- Market access
- No direct public shares are available.
- Research focus
- Keep the technology company separate from the divested diagnostics laboratory, and verify whether a claim concerns research use, a biopharma partnership, or a regulated clinical product.
PathAI is privately held. Quest Diagnostics acquired PathAI Diagnostics in 2024, while the PathAI technology company continued separately.

PathAI's AISight Dx v2.21 adds case dashboards and cheaper long-term slide storage
PathAI announced the AISight Dx version 2.21 release on July 28, 2026. The release adds a customizable Case Assignments Dashboard with a My Cases by AI Impression widget that shows live bar charts for case prioritization, plus slide viewer changes including bulk annotation deletion, editable linear measurements and a motion-based rotation mode. It also adds faster colleague invitations with online status indicators, bulk ingestion supporting Specimen, Block ID and Slide ID fields, clinician preference management in a new Library tab, and archiving to Glacier Deep Archive with on-demand restoration. The announcement states that AISight Dx is FDA-cleared for primary diagnosis in the United States and CE-IVD marked for primary diagnosis in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland.
Why it matters: Release notes rarely matter, and then one line does. Deep archive storage with restore on demand is the quiet admission that whole slide images break lab budgets, and a lab planning full digital sign out should price that before it signs. The dashboard sorting cases by AI impression is more interesting than it looks, because the order a pathologist works in starts being set by the software, and nobody has settled who is accountable when that order is wrong.
PathAI gets an FDA breakthrough designation for skin pathology AI, not a clearance
PathAI announced on March 3, 2026 that the FDA granted Breakthrough Device Designation to PathAssist Derm, which the company describes as AI designed to analyze digital whole slide images of skin lesions and aid pathologists in their review. The designation is a program status intended to speed development and review, and it is not a clearance or an approval. PathAI's own footnote on the announcement states that PathAssist Derm is for research use only and not for use in diagnostic procedures. The product is therefore not available for diagnostic sale in the United States at the time of the announcement.
Why it matters: This is the regulatory word that gets misread most often in healthcare AI marketing, so it is worth being exact. A Breakthrough Device Designation means the FDA agreed the product addresses a serious condition and deserves faster attention. It says nothing about whether the software works well enough to be cleared, and PathAI is clear in its own footnote that this one cannot be used for diagnosis yet. For a pathology group, the useful date is the day a clearance arrives, not this one.
Labcorp will roll out PathAI's digital pathology platform across its national labs
PathAI announced on February 23, 2026 that Labcorp is expanding their collaboration to deploy AISight Dx across Labcorp's anatomic pathology labs and hospital collaborations, covering what the announcement calls its national network. The platform handles case management, slide review, collaboration and annotation in a digital workflow. The announcement states that AISight Dx is FDA-cleared for primary diagnosis in the United States and is CE-IVD marked for primary diagnosis in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland. No figures are given for the number of sites, pathologists or case volume involved.
Why it matters: Scale is the hard part of digital pathology, because scanning every slide costs money long before AI saves any. A national reference lab committing its own anatomic pathology network is a stronger signal than a pilot at a single academic center. The missing number is the one that would settle it: without site counts or case volume, nationwide is a description of ambition rather than a measure of deployment.
Careers and Qualifications
What to Know Before Applying
Work areas: Computational pathology, machine learning, clinical science, biostatistics, regulatory affairs, product, and biopharma partnerships.
Qualification signal: Pathology domain knowledge, whole-slide imaging, validation design, or drug-development experience is the useful differentiator. Laboratory and medical credentials apply only to roles that actually require them.
Check current roles at PathAI. A careers page is the source of record for openings. This profile does not claim a role is open unless the company lists it now.

- How does performance vary by site, scanner, demographic subgroup, and disease prevalence?
Regulatory and workflow questions
- Which FDA authorization covers the exact product version, modality, and intended use?
- Who retains final clinical responsibility and how is disagreement with the AI handled?
- What post-deployment monitoring and material update notification does the vendor provide?
Data and contract questions
- Where are images and derived data processed and retained?
- Which PACS, RIS, pathology, and EHR integrations are supported in production?
- Can data be used for model improvement, and what controls govern secondary use?

FDA Clearances on Record
No clearance is linked in this directory. That is not automatically a mark against the company. Some products support the people doing the work instead of reading a patient image or signal themselves.
